Doldrums coming to an end

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

This has been one of the hottest and driest summers I remember in the SE. Everybody seems to be trying to escape the heat. Jody is running around carrying water to her cows - since all the ponds are dry.

But………..cooler weather and the fall season is just a week or so away. It starts with the Big South Fork and just keeps going. It doesn’t get much better. This year we are blessed with ride after ride in the fall.

Get the horses out and get them legged up. Even if you can’t do a 50 - go do a 25 to get them ready for a 50 on the next one.

Cooler weather and great rides are just around the corner.

The DHC has been approved to be an elevator ride.  If you are thinking about entering the 50 but not quite sure if you should.  You can enter the 25,  then if you feel like you would like to elevate to the 50 you can do so.

Linda Norton Needs Help

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

The chiropractor examined my horse last week and pronounced her ” a mess”, just what I wanted to hear. Anyhow, he has told me to take her home, don’t ride her for a couple of months, and start training her to round her back and use her rear. Tiki was given to me off the racetrack with rear end problems and has seemingly done great these last 7 years. We average 30 to 40 miles a week, with almost all of our riding done in the mountains. I’m pretty well devastated and don’t really know where to start. The thought of arena riding bores me, so I put her in a surcingle and draw reins and took her riding with me and let her run loose for 11 miles yesterday. I probably kept the draw reins attached for maybe 2-3 miles and she accepted it okay. I did notice that without me on her back she kept her head and neck down much better than when I ride her. I know you guys are going to say dressage lessons and I have put in a call to a facility but I’ve never had a lesson in my life and don’t even use my legs on my horse. Isn’t there something easier than a complete makeover? Any suggestions? Linda Norton in SE TN.
