Linda Norton Needs Help
The chiropractor examined my horse last week and pronounced her †a messâ€, just what I wanted to hear. Anyhow, he has told me to take her home, don’t ride her for a couple of months, and start training her to round her back and use her rear. Tiki was given to me off the racetrack with rear end problems and has seemingly done great these last 7 years. We average 30 to 40 miles a week, with almost all of our riding done in the mountains. I’m pretty well devastated and don’t really know where to start. The thought of arena riding bores me, so I put her in a surcingle and draw reins and took her riding with me and let her run loose for 11 miles yesterday. I probably kept the draw reins attached for maybe 2-3 miles and she accepted it okay. I did notice that without me on her back she kept her head and neck down much better than when I ride her. I know you guys are going to say dressage lessons and I have put in a call to a facility but I’ve never had a lesson in my life and don’t even use my legs on my horse. Isn’t there something easier than a complete makeover? Any suggestions? Linda Norton in SE TN.

I moved this up to the status of a post since I think we’ve all been here or some where close so every one would see it and answer. Linda hope you don’t mind.

Hi Linda First nice to see you at SETC.
I assume the Chiro did all the readjustments he could. You have to keep that protocal up. Maybe a few times a month.
Next does he do Acupuncture? If not find someone who does
When at Tellico I had both done on Omni almost every month at least every 2 months when we were running.
There was a great Vet north of Knoxville that did great but I had to haul there.
I cannot remember her name.
Call Doc Wilson clinic no longer Dr Wilson but the vets there are great and my offer a vet who does acupuncture.
May tick you off, but ride less miles. That many miles for LDs is way too much - even racing. I never rode that many miles when we were doing 50 milers. Just MY opinion.
Yes try to learn centered balanced riding- dressage will help balance you and your horse.

Linda,
Call Karen Knarr in Chickamauga, GA. 706 375-8722 She’s a vet who rides, does accupuncture, and is working with Josie & me in dressage for the same reason you’re needing it! She’s a follower of Craig Stevens http://www.classical-equitation.com It suits our type of horses & riding better than the German methods. Light contact, no leg.
